Drawing Fundamentals
An introduction to the practice, theory, and history of drawing. Students will study procedures, tools and equipment. Working from still life, photos, and imagination we will concentrate on shape, contour, value and volume through hand-eye and measurement practices.Life Drawing
An introduction to drawing the human form. This course will utilize the figure to explore line, shape, volume, and space. Students will practice hand eye co-ordination and learn how to measure using sighting methods.Art History
This Art History course explores the time periods from pre-history to the Gothic. Visual Culture, critique, philosophical inquiry and architectural design will be addressed.Painting Fundamentals
The year 1 painting course emphasizes observational skills, hand-eye co-ordination, improving theoretical understanding of painting and introducing students to a wider range of techniques. They will learn about colour, light, volume and composition while painting from observation. This course will address materials and techniques in oil and acrylic painting mediums.Ceramics
An introduction to the fundamentals of ceramics. The course covers design, building techniques, glazing and firing. There will be strong emphasis on three-dimensional design throughout the course. Historical reference is made throughout the course to give students a broader sense of the origins and development of ceramics.Sculpture
An introductory course in the fundamentals of sculpture utilizing the traditional methods of modeling, carving, molding, and casting. A survey of sculpture through history is presented, but emphasis is on the movements, schools, and styles of the 20th century.2D & 3D Design
An introduction to the design process. Students will consider various design disciplines that deal with two and three dimensions. The course will explore the relationship of the elements and the principles of design, the means to develop problem solving skills, and the ability to organize visual space.Printmaking
An introduction to Printmaking. Students will learn relief, intaglio, serigraphic and plano graphic printmaking processes. Students will learn how to make an edition and matte prints. There will also be a design art history component.Note: Students must take the entire package of courses in each year
YEAR TWO

Ceramics
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to develop a more conceptual approach to image making. As well as an emphasis on the development and meaning of dynamic design, students are encouraged to investigate and research personal imagery based on a broad spectrum of themes. A presentation of the students’ body of work is a significant focus of the year’s work.Sculpture/3D-Design
A course in figurative sculpture working from a base in traditional clay modeling to contemporary concepts of the human condition. It is augmented with historical and anatomical studies.Computer Graphics
An introduction to graphic design using the computer as the production tool. The course will cover the basic elements of design, typography, advertising, and computer graphics using such programs as; Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design.Printmaking
Students will expand upon skills and techniques learned in Year 1. They will explore monotype, image-on, collographs & embossing techniques. Students are required to choose three printmaking areas and complete editions in each.Photography
An introduction to photography. It will take the student through the understanding and usage of the 35mm single reflex camera, and how to compose and light their photographs. They will also learn film processing, and darkroom printing.Art History
A survey course of western art starting from the early Christian era, to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and ending in the early 18th Century with Rococo.Painting Intermediate
Students will continue to develop skills and techniques in painting using a variety of materials, working in three approaches, perceptual, photo based, and abstract. The emphasis will be on skills and techniques, personal narratives, landscape, urban image themes, and color explorations.Life Drawing
Continueing drawing the human form, utilizing the figure to explore line shape, volume, and space. Students will practice hand eye co-ordination and learn how to measure using sighting methods. Muscle and bone structure will also be explored.
